Arizona State University now offers a bachelor’s degree in content creation.

The creator economy is projected to reach $480 billion by 2027, according to Goldman Sachs. Some creators have been able to leave their traditional 9-5 roles in pursuit of it. This includes DeAndre Brown, who popularized the phrase “The Corporate Baddie,” as AFROTECH™ previously reported.

As more people pursue careers in the creator economy, Arizona State University (ASU) is now offering a major in content creation through the Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, according to AZ Family. Coursework focuses on content planning, video and podcast production, global perspectives, and personal branding, according to the university’s website.

“I don’t know any content creator who wouldn’t benefit from having world-class faculty whose sole mission is to help you and support your growth as a creator,” explained Jessica Pucci, senior associate dean at the Cronkite School, according to AZ Family.

Students will learn skills in areas including:

  • Multimedia production
  • Social media strategy
  • Audience analytics
  • Integrated communication

Students will also be able to put their skills to the test, gaining hands-on experience through brand content projects, media internships, and content creation trips.

In their senior year, students will complete a final project where they will apply their newfound skills to social media platforms, including TikTok, reports AZ Family.

“They will have demonstrable audience growth. They will have a platform of their choice with real content and real followers and a real audience behind them,” Pucci explained, per the outlet.

When students graduate, they will be prepared to work in a variety of industries and in roles including content strategy, digital influencing, brand development, social media management, and audience engagement, according to the program’s website.
