Hannah Bronfman is opening up about her experience as a first-time fund manager.
As AFROTECH™ previously told you, Bronfman became an angel investor in 2017. She is also a content creator who has been working in social media for over a decade, with 148.7 million followers and 6.6 million likes on TikTok alone. This also afforded her a unique opportunity to be gifted equity in companies in exchange for marketing, she noted at AFROTECH™ Conference 2024.
She has invested in more than 70 companies, including Monte’s Fine Foods, Golde, and Topicals.
Conteur Capital
Now, Bronfman is entering new territory in the world of investing, becoming a first-time fund manager. She is a general partner at Conteur Capital, an investment firm focused on women’s health, technology, and health services.
Bronfman offers a candid look at her journey in the new Amazon documentary series, “The CEO Club”, where viewers get a front-row seat to her efforts to raise $40 million in capital for the venture capital firm. At the time of filming, the firm had raised $4 million of its $40 million goal. In conversation with AFROTECH™, Bronfman shared what she hopes viewers will take away from the show through her experience raising for Conteur Capital.
“I hope people just understand that navigating this world of venture capital, being a fund manager, a first-time diverse fund manager, you’ve gotta have really thick skin, and there are so many nuances. There are so many invisible hurdles. There’s no handbook, there’s no road map. It’s a very cagey and opaque industry. And I hope I’m just shedding a little bit of light on that … It’s a journey, and it’s a system that’s really not made for everybody. And I think you gotta know that walking into it,” she mentioned.
Bronfman admitted there have been pivots and challenges, but still finds the journey rewarding. She shared that the firm has invested in a company, although she didn’t disclose further details.
However, as seen in “The CEO Club,” Conteur Capital had plans for a $1 million investment into a sports tech company.
Advice From Serena Williams
Another takeaway from the show will be one of sisterhood. Bronfman is joined by a handful of female CEOs, including Serena Williams. Williams is a serial investor with various unicorns in her portfolio, along with her own venture capital firm, Serena Ventures.
Bronfman and Williams have been able to lean on each other, with Bronfman expressing gratitude to have Williams as a source of wisdom and a member of her ecosystem.
“She gets access to so many different deals, and I feel very lucky that I am now able to be in cahoots with her, talk about potential deal flow, and analyze deals with her and her team. It’s been an amazing resource. And we’re also kind of focused on different things. So I bring her opportunities, she brings me opportunities, I think she has always said something that has really resonated with me, which is that ‘pressure is a privilege,'” she explained.
“That has stuck with me quite a lot because we are in a very unique situation where we do get to invest in these founders, but we also have a fiduciary responsibility to make sure that we are gonna see returns on our investment,” she added. “So it’s just an interesting dynamic and one that has a lot of nuance and complication, but I think through collaboration and constant communication, we’re always able to get to some sort of outcome, whether it’s good, bad, or a pass or something.”
More On “The CEO Club”
Thalia, Dee Ocleppo Hilfiger, Loren Ridinger, Winnie Harlow, and Isabela Rangel Grutman will also appear on “The CEO Club,” according to information shared with AFROTECH™. The show highlights trailblazing women CEOs and shares their triumphs and tribulations in both their professional and personal lives.
“I think the show really highlights beautifully behind-the-scenes everyday struggles and how whether you’re in Hannah’s business, trying to raise money, or Talia, who’s an entertainer, or I’m in the fashion business,” Hilfiger said during a virtual press junket. “And it really shows that nothing really comes easy in life. And I hope that, if anything, it will inspire young entrepreneurs. And even in my case, I started my businesses later in life. I started businesses in my fifties. So I hope it even inspires not only young women, but older women to take that first step, and go for it.”
Thalia added:
“This show is raw, is vulnerable, is powerful, is elegant. You’re not gonna see any fights. You’re gonna see supporting one girl to another. We are a supporting system for each other. And that’s what you’re gonna find.”
“The CEO Club” premieres on Amazon Prime Video on Feb. 23, 2026.
