The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) is teaming up with Crowned Skin, giving athletes access to “one of the fastest-growing men’s grooming brands in the country.”
As AFROTECH™ previously told you, Crowned Skin is the brainchild of Darrell Spencer, who helped big tech make millions while working in customer sales and advertising for companies such as Facebook, Google, Pinterest, and LinkedIn.
The science-backed skincare and grooming brand launched in 2024 with an initial investment from Spencer of $10,000 to $15,000 to develop products such as body butter, cologne, and body oil, all designed to empower men to build a consistent self-care routine, according to the outlet.
“I just wanted to create products that made men feel seen and confident,” Spencer told AFROTECH™ at the time.
Among Crowned Skin’s wins are being an eight-figure company, a top Amazon seller, the No. 2 skincare brand on TikTok Shop, and selected to soon expand its presence with Walmart, according to information shared with AFROTECH™. This aligns with Spencer’s sentiment about positioning the brand for longevity.
“I want Crowned Skin to be around for years and years, and I want it to last even when I’m not here. I want this to be a legacy company,” he told AFROTECH™ previously.
Crowned Skin’s latest strategic move is a “performance-driven partnership rooted in modern masculinity, self-care, and image,” and a signal of leaning into cultural authority, per information shared with AFROTECH™.
PLYRS House
The brand will now have a presence at the NBA All-Star Weekend, serving as the National Basketball Players Association’s Preferred Grooming Partner of its PLYRS House activation.

As for what to expect from the partnership, PLYRS House will be a social meeting ground that will invite players to experience spa treatments, receive curated gifts, and take part in behind-the-scenes lifestyle moments, fostering an environment where self-care, peak performance, and athlete culture seamlessly intersect, according to information provided to AFROTECH™.

“When the NBPA partners with Crowned Skin, it sends a clear message. Men’s grooming is no longer secondary. It’s lifestyle, performance, and identity. As a Black founder, this moment proves we can build at the highest level and lead culture on our own terms,” Spencer told AFROTECH™ exclusively.
PLYRS House’s activation will also feature live player podcasts, private screenings, charity gaming, and more, according to the NBPA.

The All-Star Weekend kicks off in Los Angeles on Friday, Feb. 13, and will conclude on Sunday, Feb. 15.
