Husband-and-wife duo Arlette Amuli and Bolia Matundi are launching Luv or Pop, and they describe it as a dating app designed to turn the show’s decision-driven format into a digital matchmaking experience. Meta, TikTok, And YouTube Will Be Heading To Trial Over Claims Its Use Led To Addiction And Harm In Children

Three big tech companies are heading to trial this week. ABC News reports that Meta’s Instagram, ByteDance’s TikTok, and Google’s YouTube are heading to Los Angeles County Superior Court, with jury selection underway this week. The case involves claims that the platforms’ products are harmful and addictive to children. A 19-year-old referred to as “KGM” is joined by two other plaintiffs, according to ABC News. KGM says she began using social media at an early age, and it has led to depression and suicidal thoughts, which she alleges stem from design choices made by the social media companies as they seek to increase their profits. “Borrowing heavily from the behavioral and neurobiological techniques used by slot machines and exploited by the cigarette industry, Defendants deliberately embedded in their products an array of design features aimed at maximizing youth engagement to drive advertising revenue,” the lawsuit read, according to ABC News. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, and...

YouTube’s 2025 Top 10 List Features 2 Black Creators: Here's More About Them

Every year, YouTube releases its list of top creators and offers a cultural snapshot of what captured our attention. It reflects who shaped the jokes we repeated, the challenges we tried, the music we streamed, and the digital worlds we escaped into. The 2025 list does all of that, but it also exposes a clear reality. Out of the 10 most influential creators of the entire year, only two Black creators appear: IShowSpeed and CoryxKenshin. In a landscape powered by massive digital audiences, global fandoms, and billion-view moments, their inclusion carries weight. The absence of more Black peers also raises important questions. However, their rise demonstrates what Black creators continue to accomplish, even within an industry that often overlooks their contributions. View this post on Instagram What The 2025 Top Creators List Reveals About YouTube According to YouTube’s official 2025 Trending report, the platform has entered a new moment in which creators shape pop culture in real...

YouTube TV Loses ESPN And Other Disney-Owned Channels After Renewal Talks Collapse

Disney has suspended its channels from YouTube TV, including ESPN, after the two companies failed to reach a new distribution deal by 11:59 p.m. ET on Oct. 30, 2025. YouTube TV announced the news in a blog post just over three hours before the deadline. The company said it had been negotiating with Disney “in good faith,” but accused the media giant of using “the threat of a blackout” to push for higher prices. Disney is “now following through on that threat,” YouTube TV wrote, calling the move to suspend their content one that “directly harms” subscribers while benefiting Disney’s own live TV offerings, such as Hulu + Live TV and Fubo. YouTube TV, whose parent company is Google, said it will offer subscribers a $20 credit if Disney’s channels remain unavailable for an extended period. On Oct. 23, YouTube TV said in its blog that Disney had proposed “costly economic terms that would raise prices on YouTube TV customers and give our customers fewer choices.” “With a $3 trillion...

Op-Ed: Is Social Media Turning Gen-Z More Conservative?

Editorial Note: Opinions and thoughts are the author’s own and not those of AFROTECH™. In the 2024 presidential election , it was reported that voter turnout among Gen-Z voters dropped significantly compared to 2020. There was also a significant uptick in younger voters who supported President Donald Trump, according to the Guardian . Overall, Gen Z appears to be leaning slightly more conservative than their Millennial counterparts, a shift largely attributed to the influence of social media and its impact on shaping political perspectives. Social media’s prevalence in our daily lives has only gotten worse over the years. People now spend the majority of their time online, doom-scrolling. Younger generations are less likely to get their news from sources other than social media. They watch YouTube videos instead of regular television and don’t listen to the radio in the same way previous generations did. Videos targeted towards young men are laced with misogynistic messaging and the...
