According to Variety, in 2025, YouTube generated more than $60 billion in revenue from advertising and subscriptions, surpassing Netflix’s $45.18 billion and trailing only slightly behind The Walt Disney Company’s $95.7 billion. Three big tech companies are heading to trial this week. ABC News reports that Meta’s Instagram, ByteDance’s TikTok, and Google’s YouTube are heading to Los Angeles County Superior Court, with jury selection underway this week. The case involves claims that the platforms’ products are harmful and addictive to children. A 19-year-old referred to as “KGM” is joined by two other plaintiffs, according to ABC News. Every year, YouTube releases its list of top creators and offers a cultural snapshot of what captured our attention. It reflects who shaped the jokes we repeated, the challenges we tried, the music we streamed, and the digital worlds we escaped into. The 2025 list does all of that, but it also exposes a clear reality. Out of the 10 most influential creators of the entire year, only two Black creators appear: IShowSpeed and CoryxKenshin. Disney has suspended its channels from YouTube TV, including ESPN, after the two companies failed to reach a new distribution deal by 11:59 p.m. ET on Oct. 30, 2025. YouTube TV announced the news in a blog post just over three hours before the deadline. The company said it had been negotiating with Disney “in good faith,” but accused the media giant of using “the threat of a blackout” to push for higher prices. Disney is “now following through on that threat,” YouTube TV wrote, calling the move to suspend their content one that “directly harms” subscribers while benefiting Disney’s own live TV offerings, such as Hulu + Live TV and Fubo.
